LETTER
Fair democratic process, please, Mr Amos
You are the MP for my riding on chemin Vanier in Aylmer. I am writing to express my extreme displeasure that our so-called progressive and open PM has decided to break another of the promises he made to the electorate before the 2015 election. Justin Trudeau's party was in fact elected on a platform promise that the 2015 election was the last year we would have the unfair first-past-the-post system that trapped Canadians with a power-crazy and unaccountable Conservative PM for almost 10 years.
While I acknowledge that I am an NDP supporter, I am also in favour of a fair democratic process, which is why I was looking forward to having a new government in 2019 that represented all the values of Canadian society.
I think that the only way we can tackle the fractured society in which political parties and their supporters resort to personal attacks, as seen most poignantly with US politics, is to have a system of government that represents all the different views and legislates by reaching consensus. This happens in the vast majority of European democracies, and I hoped a Canadian government would encourage voter participation, parliamentarian accountability and a representative legislative agenda.
Now it seems we will return to the same old power-grab fights between the Liberals and the Conservatives, refereed by the NDP. I am a proud new Canadian and it makes me angry that our PM will not give Canadian people the fair and open democratic system that the overwhelming majority of voters wish for. Please speak with your boss and let him know his actions are not going unnoticed.
Anton Heacock
