Extinction Rebellion wants coherence 

October 8, 2019, Extinction Rebellion in Quebec celebrated the anniversary of the (sixth) IPCC report in Montreal. This celebrates massive advances in the global citizen mobilisation. At this time,  people are occupying the intersection of René-Lévesque and Robert-Bourassa until their arrest. Their aim is to press governments to tell the truth about the climate crisis and make decisions that are coherent with the scientific data on our climate emergency. 

“Spring floods and soil erosion from Gaspé to Tuktoyaktuk show we are undergoing a climate crisis,” says Elza Kephart, an Extinction Rebellion coordinator. “By occupying the streets, the rebels are acting coherently with this fact. They are stating that, in good conscience, they cannot cooperate with a government that condemns children to live in a world ravaged by climate change.”  

“Only massive collective action can save the hundreds of millions of lives that are threatened by climate change,” adds François Boyer. “More and more people are taking stock of the scale of the crisis and acting accordingly. The 27th has proved this. In a year, the climate movement has built momentum.”

We have five years to act; it’s short, but we will not give up. No matter who leads in Canada, Extinction Rebellion will be here after the 21st of October to demand coherence with the facts.
