End of speed bumbs on Vanier Road?
Speed limiting measures for major traffic artery
Residents of the Terrasse Lakeview neighbourhood, as well as their city councillor Richard Bégin, have been advocating for years to limit speeding on Vanier Road between Lucerne Boulevard and Aylmer Road.
At a meeting this fall with the Public Security Commisssion, Geneviève Emery, an engineer with Infrastructure Services, noted that studies and data collection have focused on Vanier Road and near the Rapides-Deschênes School as well as South Hull Elementary School. However, because of current bylaws, speed reduction rules do not apply to Vanier Road.
Jocelyn Blondin, councillor for the Manoir-des-Trembles-Val-Tétreau district and president of the Public Security Commisssion, explained to the Bulletin that changes are coming for Vanier Road in the coming months. “There are works slated for Vanier Road next year, and the addition of new speed reduction measures are included in the plans,” he said. “They will be different from the small speed bumps currently on Vanier Road. They will probably be replaced with something else and be more visible. After that, if the commission still finds there is a speeding problem, it will recommend to the administration that the speed limit be reduced to 40 km/h.”
