LETTER
End access to assault weapons
We have written to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, signed by 79 members of the Quebec Muslim community, including the board members of the Quebec Islamic Cultural Center, the injured and survivors of the January 29, 2017 massacre and families of the deceased victims.
Although the images and information presented by the Crown during Alexandre Bissonnette’s trial risked re-traumatizing survivors and families of his victims, we recognize the importance of informing the public about what happened, in particular how the killer was able to have access to such destructive weapons and accessories.
By writing to the Prime Minister, we hope that the suffering we experienced on a daily basis in light of the publication of the details of the massacre at our Mosque will have been made worthwhile by a sincere will on the part of the government to make sure such mass shootings never happen again, first and foremost by removing legal access to assault weapons and their deadly accessories.
Boufeldja Benabdallah, President
Quebec Islamic Cultural Centre
