Elsewhere in Quebec . . .

 

After returning recently from a wonderful holiday in the Granby region of Quebec, I would like to share a few thoughts with the Bulletin’s readers.

I visited the Jardin de Metis for two weeks in early July when we had perfect weather and sunsets to take your breath away, with the blue poppy in bloom.

This region of Quebec is still charming with lovely homes and gardens, small villages with their dominating church spurs -- not a cookie-cutter block (of homes) to be seen.

The Reford Garden was in full bloom with peonies, roses, rock plants, crabapple trees and lilacs, in other words, a delight to smell and look at.

I had just finished reading Joseph Boyden’s Three Day Road, a wonderful novel about trench warfare, when I went to see the exhibit at the museum, called “War Flower”. I was emotionally undone by the complexity of this exhibition. I must urge you all to go and see it when it comes to the Canadian War Museum in October.
