Ecocentre for west-end Gatineau to be before council by the end of November

According to Lucerne District Councillor Gilles Chagnon, the first of two studies commissioned by the city to study the relevance of building an ecocentre in Aylmer has been completed.

Mr Chagnon said that he proposed the project as part of his election platform in 2017 and that the file must be presented to the council by the end of November, in the form of a presentation and possibly as part of the 2020 budget.

An analysis of the operation and model of the City’s other two ecocentres, one located in the Hull sector, and the other in the Aeropark area, will allow Council to sit down and consider the need for such a location for the Aylmer sector and the model that would be best suited for residents.

An ecocentre is a place where many reusable or recyclable materials can be deposited by the city’s residents and businesses, according to certain criteria.

Sorted construction waste, compostable and recyclable materials, electronic products, metals, tires and household hazardous waste are all examples of materials handled by ecocentres.

Access to these centres is free of charge for Gatineau residents upon presentation of proof of residence. (Trans.: BA)
