LETTER
Do we need a Mourning Dove hunt?
The Canadian Wildlife Service has approved the hunt of the Mourning Dove in southern Quebec, as of September 2016. I am appalled at such a decision, along with everyone who happens to have heard of this. The category of hunters who want to hunt the dove do so mainly to practice and to initiate the youth; they don’t eat it as it takes too long to de-feather and yields a mere 2 ounces of meat per kill.
The CWS is currently monitoring the public’s reaction, so this is the right time to react. The Regroupement Quebec Oiseaux presented a long memoire against such a hunt, but the CWS would not hear them. It’s time citizens of Quebec learn about this.
My letter in French is a statement of cons and it ends with a link inviting the citizens to write to over 20 deputies in Ottawa and Quebec.
