Proposed new Marina restaurant building and sailing club

Public consultation for the redevelopment of Parc des Cèdres is April 18, but plans have been shared with organizations as part of the consultations before going public. Of the local community groups and associations who were shown the plan proposals in March, the Club de voile Grande-Rivière is one of several raising red flags about some aspects to the plan. Utility for the club members is at risk, note club members, mostly people who enjoy sailing on the Ottawa River with the Marina at the southern entrance to the park. Parking in proximity to the club appears to be reduced, note club members and is a real problem, they tell the Bulletin. “We pack and unpack so much gear to enjoy sailing safely,” one member told the Bulletin. The ‘travel lift’, which carries sailboats to storage and repair areas needs to have easy access to the river. The club is alarmed about the plan they saw, but tell the Bulletin that city officials are paying attention to these concerns.

In the new construction, the Marina Pavilion will include a restaurant, as well as the Club de voile de Grande-Rivière school. It is Quebec’s biggest sailing school with over 450 members. The Fête du nautisme July 7 and 8, may be the last with the current configuration of parc des Cèdres as construction for the pavilion is due to start towards the end of 2018.
