LETTER
Democracy is as healthy as we make it
Thank you for asking us to submit questions for the debate on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 7 pm at our local theatre in Aylmer. I share concerns regarding the Chalk River radioactive dump’s effect on drinking water for millions of Canadians along the Algonquin Ottawa River Watershed and the state of the river re raw sewage after 2017’s floods. Three questions I would like to ask are:
1. Do you feel the National Capital Commission has lived up to its mandate given in the early 1950’s by the Greber Commission and PM Mackenzie King to protect and steward the green spaces in this National Capital area for all Citizens?
2. In Flood 2017, as Houston went under water in land covered up by developers’ cement, do you think that the cities of Ottawa and Gatineau dodged the bullet in 2017 from the similar issue of building over nature?.
3. What actions would you take in updating flood-plain mapping and motivating all levels of governance to work on this issue together?
