Deferred case of the Aylmer man charged with possession of child pornography

The case of the Aylmer father charged with possession of child pornography was postponed due to a substitution of lawyers. Defence counsel Bernard Christopher withdrew from the case on March 25 without commenting on the situation.

The court was to hear the accused’s testimony on that date.

The new lawyer must take possession of the reports and documents on file May 13. In the meantime, the accused must continue to comply with the conditions imposed on him by the court.

Arrested by police on January 30, the 39-year-old man was released on $500 bail and various conditions. Among these, he must notify the Court of any change of address; he cannot be in a public place where children have access, such public parks, libraries and schools; he cannot use the Internet or other “digital networks”; and he cannot, under any circumstances, own a smartphone.

According to the Criminal Code, an individual in possession of child pornography is “liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years with a minimum sentence of one year”.
