Daycares hammered
The Bulletin’s recent article about daycare cuts was absurdly one-sided with unchallenged remarks regarding private daycares. Private centres also follow an enormous set of regulations from the Ministère de la Famille, including training requirements. In addition, I have no idea why those in the daycare world who think "profit" is a dirty word assume everyone else does, too. The daycare I pay for makes a profit (i.e., a living) in exchange for care I approve of, a fair trade indeed. For those of us who are not outright socialists or communists, profits are not shocking but a sign of customer (i.e. parental) approval, particularly in the highly competitive daycare market. And the comment about parental management should have been balanced by the fact that private centres have parents' boards too, and parents wield influence via their chequebooks.
