Last council meeting before the summer break

Many citizens attended the last council meeting before the summer break. The meeting took place during the heat wave. The Mayor took this opportunity to remind that the water parks have extended hours and that many buildings welcomed people without air conditioning at home. A little over six months since the municipal elections, it was time to take stock.

Council adopted the resolution regarding the optimal conditions to put forth for the application of federal bill  C-45 and provincial bill 157 legalizing cannabis as of next October 17.

Aylmer elected officials highlighted the good work accomplished by L’Outaouais en fête for the “Fête nationale” festivities, June 22 to 25. They also reminded that the Old Aylmer Farmer’s Market is held every Sunday throughout the summer in the Memorial Park, near Place des Pionniers on Principale.

Gilles Chagnon, Lucerne Councillor, brought up the incident that took place a few days ago when a young boy was seriously bitten by a Pit bull type dog. The boy’s father, Mathieu Giroux, was present to ask that regulations related to dangerous dogs be tightened.

Aylmer Councillor Audrey Bureau indicated that Gatineau is adopting a  thirty units affordable housing project on Eardley Road. A grant request has also been submitted for the creation of a fitness path in Parc des Cèdres, encouraging outdoors physical exercise. Aylmer officials invited citizens to attend shows that are held in the Parc de l’Imaginaire during the summer.

Most interventions were about the heritage recognition of the museum area in Hull’s centre town. This recognition is directly linked with Brigil’s housing towers project    near the Canadian Museum of History.

On the other hand, the City will lower speed limits in many areas. Speed limit on Boulevard Lucerne, Lamontagne Road and Vanier Road (between McConnell and Aylmer Roads) will now be set at 60 km/hr. Other changes are expected for the fall, reminds Deschênes Councillor, Mike Duggan. He has also proposed a youth activity center on Castelbeau Road. Seven residents of that neighbourhood are opposed to the project since this community center will be located a few meters from their residents.
