Artists wanted!
Gatineau has launched a call for submissions for a mural artwork in Hull centretown. Artists must submit their applications between May 7 and May 28.
A jury will select the artist or artists, and the artwork will be featured on the east wall of 191 Promenade du Portage. “Pop Art Way” is the theme for the artwork to be created. Pop Art’s luminous and colourful techniques should catch citizens’ attention, said Samuelle Desjardins, coordinator of Culture Trail 2018. She says the goal here is “that this project becomes the cornerstone for the development of public art.” She adds that it is through art that a city’s core is best developed.
The City hopes the mural will be permanent and will stimulate more of this work, as it adds a cachet to the city’s centre.
The 3 km Gatineau Culture Trail is designed to promote centretown to both residents and tourists. The circuit represents an ideal urban walk with various points of interest, exhibitions and animations, as well as good restaurants.
This year’s will be the second edition of the Culture Trail. The project was launched last year, coinciding with the Canada 150 festivities and the successful Mosaïcultures in Gatineau.
The artist or artists selected will create their work between July 23 and August 31, 2018. Aylmer artists are encouraged to submit their applications.
