Residential development
Construction of the Quartier de l’Ambassade Champlain underway
Work is in progress for Brigil’s Quartier de l’Ambassade Champlain residential project, at 1150 chemin d’Aylmer, between boulevard Lucerne and chemin d’Aylmer.
One of the largest urban development projects in Quebec, valued at about $1.7 billion, the work for this project will be carried out over the next 15 to 20 years.
Just 8.5 kilometres from downtown Ottawa, the Quartier Ambassade Champlain aims to develop an employment hotbed composed of daycare centres, schools, grocery stores, microbreweries and coffee shops, along with over 3,000 housing units.
Development will begin with the construction of office and commercial buildings that will first serve to employ residents of the “urban village” and surrounding areas. Then, condominium buildings will be erected to increase population density.
Brigil representatives note that this development will be done in an environmentally-friendly way by maximizing green spaces in the “heart of the village” and minimizing deforestation. The company intends to preserve the existing ponds and woodlands along Lucerne Boulevard, while ensuring an ecological link between the Ottawa River and Gatineau Park. (Trans.: BA)
