Covid-19 Update
Community transmission low in Gatineau thanks to public diligence
While 572 Outaouais residents have been infected by coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, 421 people have recovered. Nine people were hospitalized with the virus, as of June 14 – with none requiring intensive care - according to the Centre intégré de la santé et des services sociaux de l’Outaouais (CISSSO),
Counting less than 130 active COVID-19 cases in the region, CISSSO spokesperson Marie-Pier Després confirmed with the Aylmer Bulletin that the level of community transmission is very low.
CISSSO noted that 30 people have died, with 23 deaths accounting for CISSSO’s long-term care facility (CHSLD) residents. Seeing outbreaks in four of its CHSLDs – Champlain Gatineau (two active cases), Lionel-Émond (26 active cases), la Petite-Nation (no active cases) and Residence la Gappe Phase 2 (21 active cases) - CISSSO noted that the Aylmer CHSLD has still has two cases or fewer. Among 104 CISSSO employees infected, 77 have recovered.
Noting that screening tests must be conducted by appointment, people showing COVID-19 symptoms are advised to call the Quebec Services phone line – 1-877-644-4545 or 1-819-644-4545 – to set reserve an appointment within 24 hours.
Since June 8, CISSSO has conducted an average of 161 screening tests per day. Asked about possible plans to bolster public access for testing, Després said CISSSO adjusts to the population’s demand and that they currently have sufficient capacity to meet it.
According to the Quebec Government, indoor and outdoor gatherings of no more than 10 people will be permitted starting on June 22, advising that they should include no more than three households. COVID-19 health recommendations, like social distancing and regular hand washing and avoiding will remain in effect.
