Community newspapers need their communities
Community newspapers are an essential part of the communities they serve; they report on the many issues that affect residents’ lives; they promote local businesses; they cover school, church, sports and many other events. The keep tabs on what is going on at the various levels of government. They are a compilation reflecting the life of their communities.
But community newspapers can’t do it all alone. If there weren’t events taking place, people involved, businesses operating and thriving, politicians and other community leaders working, then what would there be to write about? It’s because of you, our readers, all of our community's business owners, volunteers, politicians and community organizations that we do have news to print.
We are fortunate to have a strong community newspaper. The Aylmer Bulletin is the only bilingual voice for Aylmer, bringing local news to our readers, in the language of their choice. We, at the Bulletin, are proud of the role we play. We do our utmost to report on the things that matter to you, things that will make a difference in your lives, things that interest or concern you.
We are also encouraged that so many local businesses, organizations, and our municipal and regional governments support the paper through the purchase of advertising and community notices; social media may be free -- but it certainly doesn’t reach everyone! The Bulletin does that, by distributing 22,000 copies every week.
===The Bulletin needs you
It’s not easy doing this work. The Bulletin needs your input -- letters to the editor, purchasing ads, news tips, and event coverage. We are particularly in need of “community reporters”: people involved in their community and interested in sharing that news. If you have a camera or a good cell phone and would like to cover local events for the Bulletin, we are looking for you! We are looking especially for school events, sports, weekend activities, residents’ associations initiatives. Send a note to info@bulletinaylmer.com if this interests you. Can you help your community newspaper? – The Editor
