LETTER
Commercial Cannabis production
On Wednesday, October 17th, Canada became the second country in the world where marijuana is legal on a national level, as Bill C-45, approved by Parliament in June, goes into effect. Adults will be able to possess up to 30 grams of cannabis and grow as many as four plants of any size per household [none in Quebec]. If we have learned anything from California legalization just 7 months ago, we know they have got a way to go to work out the logistics.
Niagara College in Ontario, Canada is the first college to offer a Commercial Cannabis Production Graduate Certificate Program. Students are learning how to irrigate, feed, harvest and cure cannabis plants. The talk of legalization has been in the works for some time. Health Canada approached Niagara College and saw the immediate need to have individuals that are fully able to grow cannabis in licensed production facilities, and while recreational use is a hot topic, the medicinal benefits of cannabis is what makes October 17 such a great day for Canada.
