Club d'échecs de Gatineau: for learning the game

Open start or Italian game? Sicilian defence or Caro-Kann? King's or queen's gambit? These terms have in common a game so popular that it is considered a sport in many parts of the world: chess! Although its obscure origins date back to the 10th century, this game, which requires strategy, planning and sometimes a variation of time, has always been popular (most recently the influence of the successful TV series The Queen's Gambit) and enjoyed by many people of all ages. Learning the basics of the game with local experts is now possible thanks to the Gatineau Chess Club (Club d’échecs de Gatineau). Located at 315 Migneault Street, the Gatineau Chess Club offers meetings at its premises every Friday, for 52 weeks per year. From 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., it is possible for anyone interested to participate in chess initiation meetings, a component organized and held by instructor Marcel Laurin. The Club wishes to offer all Gatineau residents the opportunity to learn the game (pieces, rules, strategies) in a relaxed atmosphere and to improve their techniques if they so desire. The sessions of the chess initiation section are offered free of charge. Youngsters are welcome! Please note that children aged 5 and over may participate if accompanied by a parent. The Gatineau Chess Club will provide the equipment and referees (certified). It is also possible to participate in monthly tournaments listed in the Fondation québécoise des échecs (FQE). Please note that a membership fee is payable for FQE tournaments.
