Watering schedules in effect
City urges careful water usage
Gatineau is
reminding residents that outdoor watering schedules are in effect from
the beginning of May until the end of September. What is permitted is:
• Automated watering for even-numbered addresses – 3am - 5am on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
• Automated watering for odd-numbered addresses – 3am - 5am on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays
• Manual watering, washing vehicles, and filling pools are permitted at all times.
During the summer months, Gatineau’s daily consumption of potable
water increases by 100 litres per person. That number represents a huge
management cost of more than $40,000/day to cover the cost of
production, infrastructure and treatment, according to the city’s
figures. In 2015, Gatineau reported that the average consumption of
treated water per person per day was 407 litres.
The Quebec average was 589 litres per person and the Canadian average was 466 litres. (AR)
