LETTER
ELECTIONS 2017City services have deteriorated
Re “Fined for crossing a city park”, most know you cannot hang out in parks after 10 pm (a good thing), but walking through the park to get home, especially Woods Street park, shouldn’t be a crime. Park workers know it’s the only place you feel safe walking after dark, between Lake and Woods Streets via Glenholm because there are no street lights on this section of Glenholm and none on the bike path. Lights have been out for four weeks! The city has been told many times. It is scary.
It is unsafe to walk the bike and the old railway paths. The grass (all weeds) was last cut August 2015. The trees have not been trimmed in years. No amount of complaints get it cleaned up. The City doesn’t even cut its own grass. They contract it out and forget it. This field of weeds from Lake to Woods is rampant with mice, ticks (one person getting Lyme Disease is too many) dog pooh, crows, seagulls and pigeons -- plus cups, pizza boxes and dirty diapers. We witnessed a baby changed in a stroller with the dirty diaper tossed into the weeds! Most cyclists and dog walkers get off the bike path at Lake, go down Glenholm, and get back on at Woods to avoid the environment.
After dark the locals use flashlights.
Me and my neighbours believe that until someone is abducted, hit by a speeding car, or gets Lyme Disease, nothing will be done.
I’ve recently become a widow and I’m scared. You can’t even see a car in my driveway at night from my front door. I hope to sell my house in 2018, although I’ve always liked this part of Aylmer.
