City considers ecocentre in Aylmer

Aylmer may well have its own ecocentre within a few years. Councillor Gilles Chagnon is stick-handling the file through council, which already has the project listed.

Council has given the administration a mandate to judge the need for an eco-centre here, and find its ideal location.

The administration wants an equity of services throughout Gatineau, and, says the City, “an ecocentre would allow residents of west Gatineau to save money, time and reduce their ecological footprint.” 

“I would be surprised if the City tells us that Aylmer does not need an ecocentre,” says Mr Chagnon. The project had been proposed by the councillor in his platform for the 2017 election.

The City’s analysis will be released before the 2020 budget.    

There are two ecocentres serving Gatineau, one on Boulevard de la Carrière and the other on Aéroparc. Access is free for Gatineau residents, but proof of residence is required. Ecocentres accept all types of residual materials, except household garbage.

The administration notes that Gatineau’s and Hull’s ecocentres have been very busy since they opened in 2013 and 2009.  (FR)
