----City and police reach principle collective bargaining agreement
Moving a step closer to renewing their collective bargaining agreement, the city has reached an deal in principle with the Fraternité des policiers et policières de Gatineau inc.. Announced via a press release issued by the city on February 16, it noted that both parties expect to sign the final draft of the agreement in the coming weeks before being officially approved by Municipal council and the police fraternity general assembly.
The details of the deal will be publicized once the agreement is finalized. It added that the former collective bargaining agreement between both parties had been expired since December 31, 2019. Representing 451 members, the Fraternité des policiers et policières de Gatineau inc. consists of 364 full-time police officers and 87 temporary employees. It added that the city is still undergoing negotiations to renew collective bargaining agreements for the Syndicat des employés du secteur aquatique, local section 4881, and the Syndicat des employés occasionnels de la Ville de Gatineau, section 5104.
Happy with the deal, Mayor Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin emphasized the importance of police officers’ role in ensuring people’s safety and quality of life, and for their work conditions to adequately reflect their value. “I want to highlight the excellent work of the negotiation teams who came to this agreement in principle in a climate of collaboration of respectful negotiation,” Pedneaud-Jobin said in the press release. “I am convinced that we will be able to present, within a few weeks, the modalities of the agreement.”
