Citizens vote to name new Plateau library

The new library in the Plateau sector will be named after a historic woman, and it will be the citizens who decide which one. From May 22 to June 12, citizens are invited to vote for their preference from four names chosen by the city.

The four potentials are Marie-Thérèse Archambault (1904-1960), philosopher and library teacher, Donalda Charron (1886-1967), allumettière and unionist, Gabrielle Déziel-Hupé (1934-2010), playwright and actress, and Clara Lanctôt (1886-1958), poet and music teacher.

These names were chosen during the first public consultation,  February 28 to March 22, 2019, when citizens were invited to first propose names. The potentials had to be accompanied by justifications based on the City’s criteria. In keeping with the orientations of the Toponymy Committee, the City indends to pay tribute to a woman who was born or lived in the Outaouais and received 63 proposals from 139 residents.

All names not selected for this vote, but deemed valid, will be submitted to the Geographical Names Committee, which may recommend their addition to the Gatineau Geographical Names Bank.
