Child pornography arrest in Aylmer

Gatineau police arrested a 39-year-old man in one of the residences of the Terrasse-Eardley complex off Front Park, Wednesday, January 30.  He was charged with possession of child pornography. 

Police say evidence was seized in his residence during his arrest, and that he is a family man, not living alone. He is the only person charged.

The accused appeared in the Gatineau courthouse the same day and was released on $500 bail, with conditions. Among them, he must notify the Court of any change of address, and is banned from parks or other places frequented by anyone under the age of sixteen,  unless accompanied by his court-appointed guardian. He cannot use the Internet or other “digital networks”, nor, under any circumstance, can he have access to a smart phone. The accused must cancel his home Internet contract. He must “keep the peace, be of good behaviour and be present at the Court when required”.

He is due to return to court March 25.

Gatineau police cannot yet confirm whether this is his first arrest, and the investigation continues. Yet to be completed is an analysis of his computer, which could lead to other charges.

The accused man’s lawyer told the Bulletin that he couldn’t speak for the accused but that what the police and court clerk told the Bulletin reflects his understanding of the case. The lawyer, Christopher Bernard, also told the Bulletin that to his knowledge, there are no local victims, as reflected by his charges being limited to possession of child pornography.
