LETTER
Ceasefire in Syria
Oh, what a beautiful day, regardless of the uncooperative weather. Just a few weeks ago, the news was full of darkness, with Britain's PM Cameron spitting accusations -- the 'enemy agenda' at work in some kind of . . . who can tell what?
Two wise men, two leaders of nations, met, shook hands, put their differences aside, and closed the chapter on Syria's five years of suffering. Of course it will need much more than a declaration, but the two men are entering the annals of history via one simple act of
cooperation.
And if they can keep their differences under a lock for a while, ISIS (ISIL, etc.) will become something sad, done with irritating humanity’s struggle. Maybe Presidents Obama and Putin can bring a new cooperation to our world. This is surely a better legacy than other efforts as, say, Obama-care.
All that is needed is cooperation. Understanding that, the presidential candidacy of Donald Trump may not be so bad. After all, he expressed a willingness to cooperate with any leader who commands over 85% of support, even if it’s Russia.
Like it or hate it, it is time to make peace and not wars! That is our Canadian role to play, and yes, we can!
