Canadians do want voting reform!
Canadians have stood up for voting reform and sent a powerful message that we all expect the government to keep their promise to make every vote count.
Prime Minister Trudeau told Le Devoir that now that Canadians are happier with the government, voting reform is a less pressing priority. Headlines declared that he could be backing away from his promise to make every vote count - and Canadians leapt into action. Here’s a snapshot of one week:
• 726 people have made phone calls to either the Prime Minister’s or their MP’s office. That’s 36 hours+ of phone calls!
• 6000+ of you directly emailed the Prime Minister, Minister Maryam Monsef, and local MPs calling on them to keep their promise to make every vote count.
• This camapign was in the news, as we told CBC and Global News about the swift response to Trudeau’s trial balloon.
Because thousands quickly sent a loud and clear message, PM Trudeau responded on Thursday to say he remains “deeply committed” to improving “the way we pick our governments.”
The voting reform committee is making a pivotal recommendation before December 1st, so we need to keep reminding the Liberals to keep their word on voting reform. Call or email PM Trudeau and your Liberal MP if you have not!
