Canada Day Parade for Aylmer, the final countdown is on!
This year, Aylmerites will have the option to celebrate Canada Day with a parade and family-friendly activities without having to travel across the bridge to Ottawa. Representatives from the Aylmer Legion, in partnership with local sponsors and municipal support, are offering residents a day full of celebration for Canada 150. The group is adding an element of appreciation to Canada’s Military, in recognition of the 100-year anniversary of Vimy Ridge.
Ottawa spill-over coming to Aylmer
With Ottawa announcing recently that a limited number of revellers will be permitted in the downdown core due to heightened security this year, organizers of the Aylmer event expect spill-over from across the river. Ottawa is setting up large screens in public parks for the extra visitors who can’t be allowed in the centre area. “Sitting in a park with a bunch of people watching the celebrations on a screen isn’t my idea of fun,” said one Aylmerite at the June 14 press conference for the parade. “I’m bringing my family to Aylmer so we can be right up close.”
The parade will run along rue Prinpicale, and Memorial Park and the Aylmer Legion will both be sites for activities. Organizers are looking for volunteers for this event.
