Canada Day is an insulting and unfair celebration
As July 1 approaches, plans are being made throughout Canada to celebrate an incorrect historical fact; the idea that Canada was founded by the British and French. It is an idea that is insulting and unfair as well as incomplete. We need legislation that will formally recognize the role Indigenous peoples have played in the history of Canada. We need to work on a new relationship between settlers and Indigenous peoples. Let us all call on Prime Minister Trudeau to correct this story and implement the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 recommendations by July 1, 2017. Maybe then our celebrations can be about "truth".
Now is the time to turn recognition to action. Learn more at Recognition2Action.ca.
