LETTER
Calling all pedestrians nearly hit by a car . . .
Why are pedestrians being ignored? No money can buy back a life. I urge all residents who have had a close encounter with a dangerous driver to call 3-1-1 to register the incident. Maybe this will inspire the city to put in lights at dangerous places such as along Wilfrid-Lavigne. And maybe the police will pay more attention.
I myself had near hits as I crossed to the Galeries Aylmer in the last two days. In the same place, an older woman recently fell down as she made a fast stop because a car rushed towards her – even while she had the right-of-way. This poor woman’s groceries went everywhere while other pedestrians stopped cars that didn’t notice the crosswalk incident.
Mr Mayor, I would not be taking time and effort to communicate with you on this topic if I didn’t think this is really a necessity in Aylmer and all of Gatineau. Lives are important, as well as healthy living such as walking around our neighbourhoods, no matter at what age.
Let’s all call 3-1-1, every time there is a crosswalk problem.
