Call your parents!

 

At Christmas 2015, I had a strange feeling that I needed to visit my father.  He was an outstanding lawyer in Chicago who worked with F. Lee Bailey in one important case that was mentioned in the New York Times. I spent the spring of 2016 in four lengthy visits, and then one last time to say goodbye at his funeral, after his death on April 16, 2016.

I talked to him every day; often we watched baseball or hockey games together (on our respective TVs).  He would have loved to see his beloved Cubs win the World Series!

He liked to do the daily word jumble and would ask me to help him solve it. There were times when I was tired and didn’t want to chat on the phone, but I thought to myself, “some day, you won’t have that option.” There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t want to call him to ask him for advice or tell him about some event.  

With the anniversary of his death, I want to remind everyone that life is fleeting.  Please call your parents, if you are lucky enough to have them around.
