C-51 threatens us more than terrorists

 

The Harper Government, as they like to call themselves (also known as "The Party of One") is attempting to sneak another reckless and dangerous bill, C-51, though Parliament, after a committee hearing that has been widely described as "theater" and clearly was yet another affront to our democratic processes. During those hearings, the CPC blocked the Privacy Commissioners from speaking, but imported right-wing Tea Party groups from the U.S. and gave them prominent speaking roles. The CPC now is intent on ramming C-51 through with no significant amendments. This is not Canadian democracy as it is supposed to work.

 

Having failed to silence environmental groups by abusive use of the CRA, Harper is upping the anti by creating a secret police power with a loose mandate and no oversight. Anyone who thinks this is a good idea has little knowledge of history. This is from the "law and order" government that engaged in widespread and totally illegal election fraud in the two previous elections. Giving any politicians the power to spy on all Canadians and interfere with legitimate dissent is a very bad idea. The threat from outside "terrorists" is much less significant than the threat to our democracy and well-being posed by this government.
