Bulletin cited for “Best in Québec”
20 award nominations for local papers
The Quebec Community Newspapers Association (QCNA) released the shortlist for its provincial Better Newspaper Awards, March 20, with multiple nominations for the Bulletin d’Aylmer, West Quebec Post and the Journal du Pontiac. Among the most prestigious is a first-ever nomination for Best Overall Newspaper in Quebec for the Bulletin d’Aylmer.
The Bulletin also garnered nominations for Best Editorial Page (Symmes Inn Museum sign), Best Special Section (35th Anniversary for Bena and Best of Aylmer, Readers’ Choice Awards), Best overall ad (Charles Viau), and overall website. The Journal du Pontiac was also nominated in the Best Editorial Page category, as well as Best Community Newspaper Promotion.
The work of individual journalists at the Bulletin d’Aylmer and the Journal du Pontiac was also recognized by the QCNA. Laurent Robillard-Cardinal received two nominations, one for Best Feature Series (Water in Lakeview Terrace) and the other for Best French-language News Story; he also won a nomination for Best Agricultural Story (appeared in the West Quebec Post). Lily Ryan, was nominated for Best Editorial (Ghosting the Aylmer Marina).
In the Best French-language editorial category, Dominique Bomans and François Carrier, both at the Journal du Pontiac, are competing against one another. The Journal’s editor, Allyson Beauregard, won one for “General-topic Editorials”, her second year in a row, and Mr Carrier won a nomination for Best French-language news story.
In the Graphic Design Excellence categories, Tania Baker, who works for both newspapers, was nominated three times for Best Advertising Creation. Production manager Charles Viau also received a nomination in the same category.
The ranking of the three nominations in each category, and appropriate awards, will be revealed at the Association’s gala, June 2, in the Laurentians.
