Budget & oil subsidies
The 2017 federal budget reduces some of the subsidies to the fossil fuel industry but still allocates hundreds of millions of dollars to the industry. This undermines actions to fight climate change.
Subsidies should support a clean energy economy and Canada has many sources of renewable power such as wind, solar, geothermal. Canada can build a clean economy that will benefits all Canadians, and the government must help by gradually phasing out subsidies to the fossil fuel industry and switch to supporting a clean energy economy. Perhaps the fossil fuel industry would be interested in converting to a clean energy economy, as this industry already has an infrastructure and connections that could be used to produce such things as solar panels, windmills, and geothermal products.
It's time to put an end to all fossil fuel subsidies.
