--- Brown Bag Coffee Roasters regionally recognized
In a year characterized by unprecedented challenges, the people at Brown Bag Coffee Roasters (BBCR) saw their hard work pay off after recently being nominated as one of the best coffee roasters in the Ottawa-Gatineau region.
Nominated during the 4th annual Th3rdwave Awards, BBCR’s Head of Roasting and Operations Chris Jonker said he was delightfully surprised with the recognition. Despite how difficult 2020 was for so many people, he emphasized that an amplified desire to support local businesses throughout the pandemic played an important role in the BBCR’s success. “It’s been challenging for sure. But we’ve had amazing support from our local people,” Jonker said, noting that November and December were the business’ most successful months last year. “Which is awesome, because our wholesale side obviously took a major hit. But people kind of came together around what it means to support local.”
Adding another star to the BBCR’s already bright resume, Jonker is optimistic that the nomination provides promotional benefits as well by showing more people why the Aylmer roastery is so highly regarded. “This will be a great feather in our cap. It puts us next to names who have been in the industry for a lot longer than we have,” Jonker said, noting that BBCR has been open since 2017. “It’s nice to be seen among guys who we have a lot of respect for.”
The Th3rdwave Awards is national celebration intended to highlight the best independent coffee shops in different regions across Canada.
