Bollards vs parents’ guidance?
Municipal Council has said that bollards are used to safeguard our children. Is it just empty words to give the impression that they are doing something constructive, or is it pressure from parents who are not doing their duty? Council should be telling parents it is their duty to teach their children the hazards of road traffic and ensure that their little ones understand the importance of looking both ways twice before crossing a street. I have said this before and I can’t stress it enough that it is the responsibility of parents and they ought not depend on the state and strangers for the safety of their little ones.
So, now that the most dangerous time of the year is here with slippery streets, unkept sidewalks, snowbanks, and our little ones are more interested in playing in the snow than thinking of traffic, what are our civic leaders going to do?
Council’s bollards have to some extent made our children irresponsible. Some just walk across the street without looking. Isn’t time to rethink the usefulness of bollards and come up with something better? I can’t stress it enough how important it is that parents teach their little ones the dangers on our streets.
