Laurent Robillard-Cardinal
An Aylmer semi-detached home was seriously damaged in a fire on February 27. The blaze, at 515 John Egan Street , broke out shortly before 1:15 pm. When firefighters arrived on the scene smoke was coming out of the front doors and windows of the two-storey home.
The firefighters proceeded with a rapid intervention to reduce damages and contain the blaze. A neighbouring home was slightly affected by the fire. Six people had to be evacuated. The Red Cross is assisting five of them.
Gatineau’s Fire Department has yet to estimate the damages to the home. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. It’s also unclear according to the Fire Department’s report if smoke detectors were functional.
