Bird-watching in May!

 

Throughout the month of May, it’s the Québec-Oiseaux Great Challenge, an offering of the Club des ornithologues de l’Outaouais (COO). For seven years, Québec-Oiseaux and the COO bring you an original way to celebrate spring: the Great Challenge. It means birder  teams, stationary or on the move, trying to observe as many birds species as possible in a single 24-hour period, in many sites in Outaouais. You could participate by sponsoring the team(s) of your choice. Read the details at www.quebecoiseaux.org/index.php/gdqo-en. Numerous prizes to be won by the donors. Persons in charge: Réal Bisson, Alain P. Tremblay, and Frédéric Bédard. We speak English.

May 11. Evening walk in FORÊT DE CHANTEGRIVE, (Manoir des Trembles sector) with the Club des ornithologues de l’Outaouais (COO). Observing the advance of the bird’s spring migration in the city’s heart, where the urban forest meets the open spaces. Encounter Wood Ducks, Baltimore Orioles, Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, many warbler species and thrushes, as well as many species of flowering plants. Rendez-vous: 6 pm at the crossing of Blvd Louise-Campagna and rue du Cygne, just beside the bike path, Hull sector. We speak English. Your hosts: Marie Bédard and Josée Soucie.  

May 14. Bird banding demonstration, on the invitation of the Club des ornithologues de l’Outaouais (COO). Let’s see what mist nets will reveal, set in the Marais Lamoureux area. Rendez-vous: from 7 am to 10 am at end of Lamoureux Street, Deschênes rapids, Aylmer. You can also park at the end of Vanier Road. We speak English. Your host : Ted Cheskey.
