LETTER
Bike lanes . . . horses, one-person cars
I am looking forward to the completion of the bike lanes on Lucerne Boulevard. I bought a battery pack for my bicycle and now, I am told by the manufacturer, I have a range of 40km. Once the bike lanes are open on any day when it is safe to do so and when I have the time, I plan to ride, not drive. At rush hour in particular, cycling is bound to be much faster over the bridge.
There are only four vehicle lanes out of Aylmer [heading east]: one on Lucerne, one on Aylmer Road and two on Les Allumettieres. There is one public transport lane on Aylmer Road. There is no point in having more lanes out of Aylmer since all of these routes lead to the same number of exit lanes: One on the Champlain and one on Alexander Tache.
There is only one solution: Get drivers and their cars off the road by improved public transit, carpooling/car sharing, and all two-wheeled modes of transportation. I would like to bring some horses back into the mix. Also one-person cars should be mass produced. Most of the two and three thousand pound cars have one 150 lb driver in them.
