Best on white water: kayakers surprise gala guests

 

Top kayakers gathered in Aylmer for a whitewater kayaking competition were surprise guests at the Best of Aylmer gala, April 24. Competing at the Deschênes Rapids between the shoreline and the ruins, these kayakers shared their experiences with becoming the best in their fields, as celebrated at the Readers’ Choice Awards, as well as making a plea to support the protection of the ruins. During Gatineau Mayor Maxime Pedneaud Jobin’s speech later in the evening, the mayor responded to the kayakers and the general support in the room for protecting the ruins by applauding their dedication to their craft. He went on to invite anyone who feels strongly about the Deschênes Ruins to email him as, he told the full banquet hall, public participation is what makes a strong community such as Aylmer.
