LETTER
“. . . before it’s too late”
A hearty congratulations to the newly elected city councillors! They are people who have proven community engagement. I look forward to working with them.
Politics is about ideas. It is also about action. I remember learning in school about “Kairos”. From ancient Greek mythology, Kairos represents that perfect moment in time when everything else before and after is defined in relation to it. Now is one of those times.
The federal agreement with Quebec to propose innovative transportation projects in the medium term will expire in the first half of 2018. This means that to bring a form of rail transportation to the west, Gatineau city council needs to take a stand very early in its new mandate.
All three councillors in Aylmer have publicly supported a concept of bringing rail to our sector, each with their own flavour. I strongly encourage them to make common cause with their colleagues from the other sectors. Once they do, they can count on the federal government to help them “seize the moment” to make our city an even better place to raise a family, work, and enjoy.
Greg Fergus, Member of Parliament
Hull-Aylmer
