Beach parking rules?
I am writing to express my disappointment of the new parking signs at the Alymer Marina specifically on rue Raoul-Roy prohibiting parking between 8:00pm-8:00am. We were playing volleyball until 8:05pm on Wednesday July 13th and returned to our vehicles to find parking tickets issued between 8:10pm-8:22pm. The city parking officer was still in the parking lot and did not take into account that we honestly did not see the signs! We have been playing volleyball and parking in the same place since 2005 and have enjoyed many beautiful sunsets at the beach.
Close beach parking is important for the public arriving with volleyball equipment, sailing equipment, picnic baskets, swimming gear & toys, and young families or people with reduced mobility and leaving after sunset on warm summer nights. Ticketing this group of individuals leaving the beach at a reasonable time is a waste of city resources and leaves this group of Alymerites saddened that rowdy individuals arriving at the beach at 8pm for late night parties have disturbed the residents, and that the city has decided to punish us all.
For consideration, a positive solution for the residents and for families would be to align the hours prohibiting parking with other restrictions on public city parks (i.e. our neighbourhood park closes at 11pm). Rules should be consistent across Aylmer.
