Aylmerites help in combating invasive Buckthorn in the Outaouais
Samantha MacConnell
The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is continuing its ongoing efforts to raise awareness of the region’s invasive alien buckthorn plant. The NCC has held various hands-on activities to teach Gatineau residents how to identify and safely get rid of the plant, which takes over native species habitat and puts a strain on the biodiversity of the area’s natural environment. Members of the anti-buckthorn squad will be holding several future sessions on July 31 (5-9 PM), August 7 (5-9 PM ), August 18 (9 Am-2 PM) and August 21 (5-9 PM), where registrants will meet in Aylmer to learn, uproot, and cut the invasive buckthorn and prevent it from overwhelming the area.
