Aylmer’s new SAQ is now open!
The SAQ, Quebec’s wine and spirits seller, announced in early September that their new store on Aylmer Road will open on September 13.
Unlike the current Classic SAQ outlet in the Galeries Aylmer, the new Selection banner will offer a greater variety of products, including wines from the well-known Cellier space.
The SAQ launched a call for tender this past spring after their lease at the Galeries Aylmer had ended. After examining the local market, the provincial crown corporation opted to open a larger outlet carrying additional products.
After receiving six submissions, the SAQ accepted Heafey Group’s proposal. Even after receiving an access to information request, the SAQ refused to provide further details about the other submissions, indicating that the scores and additional information were confidential.
Unlike other buildings on Aylmer Road, the new single-storey store of 530 square metres, with a contemporary look, is adjacent to the street. Currently, most buildings on Aylmer Road that were built in the 1970s have a big parking lot in front of them. This won’t be the case for the new SAQ.
In addition, a space in front of the new building will be landscaped and seven trees will be planted around the building and the parking lot. The delivery bay will be built in the rear of the building and rooftop equipment will be hidden.
