Aylmer's infrastructure : a proposal
Much gnashing of teeth about poor roads and costly projects goes on regularly in the Letters section of the Aylmer Bulletin.
My recommendation to the new Mayor and councillors of Gatineau is the following: whoever is responsible for road maintenance, traffic monitoring and planning be made available on a regular basis (say quarterly) to take questions from the public and give up to date information at official council meetings. There has to be some official accountability for potholes, traffic congestion, and urban planning. Currently, it appears that the needs of residents come last.
The model of urban development that spells growth at all costs seems to be weak on delivering a decent, sustainable life style for its citizens.
