Aylmer’s “Citizen of the Year”
This is the 38th year that the Aylmer Civitan Club looks into our community to discover a new outstanding citizen to recognize with this award. Last year, we were pleased to make this award to Mr. Pierre Ethier, a long-time community volunteer and member of the Knights of Columbus. Congratulations again, Pierre! Even with all this community involvement, the Citizen of the Year award could not be successful without the eyes, ears, and nominations of the people of Aylmer. We sincerely ask Aylmerites to consider the good people they know in the community, get a nomination form from me, or any club member, and to write up and submit your nominations. The criteria include:
1. The candidate should have demonstrated qualities of good citizenship, performed unselfish services (over the years) to improve the quality of life for the greater Aylmer community and shown a wide-range of interests and involvement in community affairs.
2. The candidate’s involvement has had a significant impact on the community.
3. The candidate cannot be a current member of the Aylmer Civitan Club.
Forms are available from club members and directly from Civitan Mark Wright at 819-332-4644, markwright@videotron.ca. The forms must be completed and your nominations returned to the Civitan club at CP 246, Gatineau, QC, J9H 5E6 no later than March 18, 2016.
Civitan’s motto is “Builders of Good Citizenship”. There are many people who are very active in our community, making it a better place to work and play. These volunteers, generous in their giving of time, and often resources, are role models of good character. They are saying to us, “Get out. Get Involved. Have fun! Volunteer and make a difference.” Become a part of your community and you will find that there are many good-hearted people who keep Aylmer a vibrant, friendly community like no other.
We’ll see you at the Steak-Out BBQ on April 2, 2016 at Aydelu Center where the winner of the Citizen of the Year award will be revealed. Contact Civitan Mark-Christian Koch for tickets, $30, at 819-684-9872, markcathar@aol.com.
