SOS PERU
Aylmer’s Amazonas helping in relief efforts in Peru
The local Peruvian community is asking for your help. Segundo Vargas, Aylmer-based restaurateur, is hoping Aylmerites can join him and his community for a special fundraiser event on April 9 at the Holy Family Parish in Ottawa (152 Glenora St, Ottawa).
All the profits and donations will go directly to the Red Cross in the north western town of Piura, Peru devastated by torrential rains, heavy flooding, landslides, etc.
According to the Peru’s Government, about 80 people have died, close to 300 people have been injured, and more than 100,000 people have been affected by the disaster.
Tickets for the 5 to 9 pm event are 20$ and participants can purchase them at the restaurant Amazonas, 19 Eardley Road in Aylmer.
The event will feature a silent auction, delicious Peruvian food prepared by M. Vargas, live music by Eva Avila and her father, who are of Peruvian origin. An important amount of the collected funds will go towards purchasing water lifestraws, to provide residents with clean drinking water.
The Peruvian Embassy has set up an account with RBC and those interested in donating money can do so by wiring funds to the Embassy of Peru to Canada Disaster Relief Fund 2017 account 00006 1049964.
