Aylmer remembers on November 11th

Aylmer will pay tribute to veterans of the commonwealth on November 11th.

As is tradition, Branch 033 of the Royal Canadian Legion, located here in Aylmer, will lead the procession in a 15-minute parade rue Principal into the Commemorative Park.

At 10:50 am, a ceremony will be held in the park followed by a moment of silence and the laying of the wreaths.

The legion expects a huge turnout this year with the participation of a great number of cadets, scout groups and students.

Music throughout the day will be courtesy of the Ottawa Police Service Pipe Band. Of note, Armistice Day is the original name for Remembrance Day in Canada.

Walk with the Legion November 10

On Sunday, November 10, for the second year, the Aylmer Legion is organizing a remembrance walk through the St-Paul’s and Bellevue Cemeteries.

A new tradition for the legion which began last year, it is organized by veterans and legion members. They are hosting the walk as a prelude to the Ringing of the Bells at sunset on Armistice Day (November 11), Canadian flags will be placed on the graves of the interred to recognize and thank the now resting soldiers for their efforts and contributions to the Canadian forces.

Unlike those killed in battle and buried in Europe, whose graves are well-marked and maintained, Canadian returned veterans lie, for the most part, in ordinary graves scattered throughout the county, unrecognized for the remarkable sacrifices that they contributed.
