Aylmer marks Vimy Ridge anniversary

April 9-12 marks the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. The Aylmer Legion Quebec Branch #33 and local members of the community gathered at the Cenotaph here in Aylmer on Sunday, April 9, to remember and honour the Canadians who fought in the battle.

The Battle of Vimy Ridge included the Canadian corps which won a victory over the Germans, and captured the heavily defended ridge. The Canadians suffered many casualties, over 3,500 fatal.

On July 1, 2017, Canada’s 150th anniversary, the Aylmer Legion Quebec Branch #33 will gather again to remember the Battle of Vimy Ridge and honour those who lost their lives, with a full military parade down rue Principale, followed by a ceremony at the Cenotaph.
