Aylmer man arrested for possession of child pornography
Gatineau police officers arrested a 39-year-old man in one of the residences of the Terrasse-Eardley housing complex near Front Park on Wednesday morning, January 30.
The man is formally charged with possession of child pornography. The evidence in his residence was seized during his arrest, according to Ms. East, a spokesperson and officer with the Gatineau Police (SPVG).
The accused appeared at the Gatineau courthouse the same day and was released on $500 bail and conditions. Among these conditions, he must notify the Court of any change of address, he cannot be at Front Park, cannot use the Internet or other "digital networks". The latter cannot under any circumstances own a smartphone.
A family man, he does not live alone in his residence. He is the sole suspect in this police matter.
The SPVG cannot confirm whether this is the first time the man has been arrested. The latter is due to return to the courthouse on March 25.
According to the Criminal Code, an individual in possession of pornography is "liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years with a minimum sentence of one year".
The investigation is ongoing, according to Gatineau Police. Other types of charges could be laid after the computer analysis, which the police said could "take time".
