Aylmer Little Friends Playgroup houses the first of many new itinerant libraries
Aylmer has itself a new itinerant library, this time targeted for children between the ages of 0 and 12.
Located on 164 rue Principale, right next to the bus stop, this book exchange project, inspired by the “Take a book or give a book” approach, was funded and arranged by the Entre-Nous community centre and Partenaires du Secteur Aylmer (PSA) community group.
The “Croque-livres” is a network of book-sharing boxes that offers children and their families free access to shared books. The initiative aims to bring together and engage communities around the pleasure of reading.
This box, which was adopted by the Little Friends Playgroup housed on the third floor of the Aylmer United Church, was built and painted by students from Grande-Rivière High School.
The design of this particular box was inspired by the colourful works of Quebec artist Alfred Pella.
Including this box, a total of six “Croques-Livres” stations are in the works for Aylmer with the Garderie de La Marina, CPE Le Châtelet, l’école du Village and the Centre de resources Connexion set to house the remaining boxes.
All future boxes are also planned to be designed by Grande-Rivière High School students.
